Sash Window Repair

Sash windows could be out of balance, or even break. Pam is on the lookout for salvaged waving glass, wavy and is always looking for the sash weights that are discarded, made of metal. She then hunts for replacements in the form of washers or nuts to ensure that her window is balanced.

Pam will set each pan by placing a rope of glazing material into the rabbet groove, or pocket around the opening. This reduces drafts and prevent costly heat loss.

Sashes that stick Sashes

It's a nightmare if your double-hung windows become stuck. They'll sway in the event of a storm, and you'll lose your view. A window that's too loose could let air and noise in which can increase your energy bills. Neither scenario is ideal, but both could be addressed with the right tools and a little determination.

One of the most common issues with weighted sash windows is that paint could build up in the channels they slide on, causing them blockage. Luckily, most issues with this can be resolved by cleaning and lubricating the tracks.

Start by removing the old caulking that was between the window stop (the internal one) and the window frame. Scrape off any paint that has accumulated. Make sure you employ a sharp blade and then set up sheets of plastic and a vacuum cleaner right below to keep any paint dust and chips.

Then, wipe the tracks with a dry cloth and apply a silicone lubricant to ensure more smooth gliding. This lubricant is available at most home improvement shops or online. Then, you can move the sash up or down to test it.
