It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
