A break shot is the opening shot of a match or rack, depending on the game. You can determine play order however you want, but the official way to determine turn order in 8 ball is a lag for the opening break. An inning is a player’s turn at the table. A ball that is pocketed or driven off the table is also considered to have been driven to a rail. If a ball stops near the edge of a pocket, and remains apparently motionless for five seconds, it is not considered pocketed if it later falls into the pocket by itself. A ball is pocketed if it comes to rest in a pocket below the playing surface or enters the ball return system. A scoop shot, in which the cue tip contacts the playing surface and the cue ball at the same time and this causes the cue ball to rise off the cloth, is treated like a miscue. The cue ball is in hand, and the incoming player may place it anywhere on the playing surface.

Billiards does not use racks while playing. A ball that contacts the top of the rail is not considered to have been driven off the table if it returns to the playing surface or enters a pocket. Keep in mind that these two other balls are already on the table and that the cue balls are white and yellow. A jump shot is one in which the cue ball is made to go over an intervening obstacle such as an object ball or part of the cushion. These regulations address dress requirements, protests, scheduling issues, and other items that are not part of the actual Rules of Play but need to be regulated for the individual event. That’s why our great games all need solid pool balls. With that said, billiard balls are the same size as pool balls. If you are ready to move your pool/snooker game up to the next level, you should start by getting your cue or upgrading over the cue you have now at Quedos. A standard pool/billiard cue ball will measure 1 7/8 inches in diameter for an English cue ball while the standard American cue ball measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter.

Billiards Cues: Billiards cues feature a medium-weighted cue (17-21 ounces) with a moderate taper and a tip diameter typically ranging from 11-12mm. This configuration balances the power and precision necessary for carom shots on pocketless tables. If the cue ball contacts an already pocketed ball, the cue ball will be considered pocketed whether it rebounds from the pocket or not. Some games, such as nine ball, are scored at one point per rack. You also win if your opponent accidentally pots the 8 ball, which is illegal. A ball is assumed not to be frozen to any rail unless it is declared frozen by the referee, the shooter, or the opponent. He must make his intention known to the referee, and then rules 6.2 Wrong Ball First and 6.3 No Rail after Contact are suspended for the shot. 6.2 Wrong Ball First The first object ball contacted by the cue ball on each shot must be the lowest-numbered ball remaining on the table. If the shooter fails to pocket the called ball or fouls, play passes to the other player, and if no foul was committed, the incoming player must play the cue ball from the position left by the other player.

No standing wheelchairs may be used in the standing position. The referee will remove pocketed object balls from full or nearly full pockets, but it is the shooter’s responsibility to see that this duty is performed. If the shooter legally pockets a called/nominated ball on a shot (except a push out, see 9.4 Second Shot of the Rack - Push Out), any additional balls pocketed remain pocketed (except the ten ball; see 9.9 Spotting Balls), and he continues at the table for the next shot. If the ten ball is pocketed on a foul or push out, or accidentally in the wrong pocket, or driven off the table, it is re-spotted. A shot on which the cue ball is pocketed is called a scratch. Two things play a role in cue ball control, the player’s touch and the quality of the cue. A player’s wheelchair should be clean and in good working order. It happens when the object balls have been racked and the cue ball is played from behind the head string usually with the intent of breaking the rack apart.
