WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrader kit by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrading used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which displays a preview of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item Level Upgrade upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by engaging in outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item upgrades in the proper steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
