Robots that clean and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning both dry and wet messes in one time, without having to switch devices. They can also reduce space when compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living areas.

A good combination bot will be able to navigate well and have excellent obstacle avoidance. Look for models that have docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, replenish their water tanks and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's among the easiest robots to install that we've tested. Unpacking the S1 Pro is simple, and an easy-to-follow guide will have you running with a clean and complete dust bag, a hard floor solution and water tank in no time at all.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that cleans up a mess and vacuums well too. The mops are spun at a high speed and utilize 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to get rid of pet hair, dirt and sticky dried spills. The best automatic vacuum cleaner cleaner has four power settings, a variety of brushes and attachments, and an intuitive app that lets you select the type of cleaning you want for each room.

You can, for example request the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly, but leave the bedroom in its own space. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors and smart navigation technology. It is able to recognize small obstacles that other models are unable to. The only issue it has is that it tends to crash into walls and objects at full speed - but just a glance at the cleaning history within the app will show you exactly what it's doing and where it's headed and the obstacles it's avoided.

The docking station features an LCD display that shows the time when maintenance is required for cleaning up debris and rinsing the water tank that is dirty. It can also mix detergent automatically into the water tank by using a 600ml bottle filled with the eufy's solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum have a long running time. The mop can operate for 184 mins in Quiet Mode and the vacuum can run for 136 minutes in standard mode, before needing recharging or returning to the base. You can also view the complete cleaning details within the app, which is intuitively laid out and easily understood however we would have liked to be able distinguish between a vacuum and mop and vacuum clean when looking at a cleaned area in the history of cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the most recent version of the company's flagship robot vacuum and mop. The model this year has two agitators built into its mopping pad. This increases the cleaning capabilities of carpets with this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction capacity which allows it to pull up smaller hairs as well as other debris other robotic cleaners might miss.

Like the other two Roborock models I've tested it also has a 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology to can help it avoid walls, furniture and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things one step further by having a dual camera that can detect objects and robots that vacuum and mop determine whether they are a wall or another surface. It can then automatically change its path and clean around them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive robot I've ever tested, but it also has the most features. Its sleek, angular style is attractive and it has only three physical buttons: the power button, which also resumes cleaning; a mop-only button that doubles as a child lock and a home button that can return the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be lifted to reveal 350ml of dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank automatically empties and the bin fills up automatically.

The only negative I discovered with this model was that the VibraRise mop pad mount isn't movable. Although you can change the mopping cloth (if it's required) but it's a challenge to take off the mount for manual washing. I've observed that any carpet that the robot touches will come into contact with the rough Velcro like fastener system on mounts, which could cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart capabilities which include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. The Roborock app allows you to manage and configure these smart features. It also has maps and advanced mopping options. The app also allows you to schedule cleanings, monitor the battery life and maintain your components. You'll have to go through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. It's a shame considering the performance otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 is an industry-leading robot vacuum and mop with outstanding suction power, advanced mowing capabilities, and a variety of innovative features. Its clever design permits customized and efficient cleaning while reducing time.

The X40 robot vacuum cleaner is the first one to provide 12,000 Pascals cleaning power. It is one of the most powerful options available. The side brush automatically tilts down when it spots wet spots. This is a wonderful feature that helps the X40 to avoid damaging floors by the frequent back-and-forth movement.

Contrary to other robots, which are limited to one task, the X40 can vacuum and mop simultaneously. It can also be programmed to eliminate areas with carpets and mop only hard floors or vice versa. It can be controlled via the Dreame app or with Alexa, Siri, and Google Home for a seamless voice-controlled operation.

The app is simple and easy to use and the X40's intelligent features are a breeze to set up. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, adjust suction power and mode, look at mapping and floor plans, and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also keep track of its progress and notify you when it's done.

The X40 is easy to maintain and comes with many convenient features, making it a great option for busy families. Its docking station automatically empties the dustbin into a large 3.2 L bin, washes the mop pads, then refills them with clean water and cleaning solution. It also can detect when the mop pad is full and alert you before it gets overflowing, reducing the need for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a high-end robot that's one of the most expensive models available, but it packs in a lot of additional features that distinguish it from. The mops are equipped with a new feature called Smart DuoScrub. It utilizes two mops that are high-speed to clean floors more thoroughly than the traditional method, and has an impressive suction power of 7,000Pa. This is higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also remove pet hair, small dirt particles, and clean up spills and dirt-stained spots.

The mops are cleaned and dried in the base station each time they are used. This is beneficial because it prevents mould and unpleasant odours that can build up in storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum and mop models. It could be a great way to keep your home clean longer.

There are plenty of options, including the option to schedule cleanings and change preferences. The app lets you define these preferences, or you can use the buttons on the device itself. The app is easy to use and offers a variety of options for customising your cleaning routine. It also offers a number of features that aren't available on other robots, such as the Clean Genius Mode, which automatically increases suction when it detects any dust particles.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most elegant robots we've seen on the market, sporting metallic and white colors that looks elegant and classy. It's a bit heavier than some of the other two-in-one robots in this list, at 4kg but it's not too heavy, and feels sturdy and well-built. Mopping is well designed and the double-rotating mop is a great choice for hard floors or in corners. They can even reach down to 2mm of baseboards due to the MopExtend feature which is a nice addition.
