Buying a Pram Newborn

Prams and pushchairs are multi-functional, multi-purpose companions of caregivers and parents. They're the co-pilots of the journey of your child.

A pram newborn is dedicated to newborns and babies and has an incredibly sturdy, deep carrycot with soft and secure walls.

A pram is typically equipped with a bassinet. However, it can be converted into an infant stroller seat once baby is ready.

Safety

The newborns of today are extremely fragile and need to be kept as secure as is possible. Purchasing a stroller or pram equipped with safety features will ensure that your baby is safe and secure during travel. The basic requirements for any pram or stroller are a functioning brake, a five-point safety harness (2 shoulder straps, 2 waist straps and an crotch strap) and the wrist tether strap that is for the person who is pushing the pram. Verify that the stroller you select is in compliance with these requirements.

Look for a pram that allows your baby to ride in the recommended lie-flat position. This position is supportive for the baby and prevents the risk of a dangerous curve in the spine which could cause spinal issues. By keeping the airways open, it reduces the chance of SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Asphyxiation). The majority of prams can be used right from the time of birth. They have a seat unit which reclines into a lay-flat position for infants. It can also be converted into a pushchair unit for older children.

The suspension of the pram will determine how smooth it is. A pram that has lots of spring suspension will cost more however, it's worth the extra expense in the event that you plan to use your pram every day for a couple of years or more.

Always read the instructions and read the warning labels on your pram or stroller. You should also make sure that your toddler stroller is placed in a safe location away from bicycles, traffic or any other dangers when it is not being used. You should also remove any bags or other items from the handles as they could cause your baby to get trapped or even suffocate.

Even if your baby is asleep, it's never a good idea to leave a stroller or pram unattended. They may squirm into the stroller and become trapped, or be pushed away and cause injuries. Hanging bags, or other items from the handles isn't recommended because they could fall and hit your child in the head.

Comfort

Possibility of lying flat seating is an absolute must for newborns, as it promotes better back and lung development. Cocoons or carrycots are found on many prams. They create a nest-like environment that is a comfortable place for your baby and can be detached easily from the frame. Some seats, such as the bucket-style seat on egg2, can't be reclined completely flat, but they provide a comfortable ride for your child.

Some prams have a separate bassinet or seat for a newborn. This allows you to easily switch between the sleeping and sitting positions depending on the requirements of your baby. This is sometimes called a "travel system" and is the initial option to try out with your baby.

Find a pram that has two shoulder straps which are cushioned and a five-point security harness. It must fit your child's body comfortably. Be sure there aren't gaps or areas that are loose in which fingers can get caught, and that the buckles are comfortable to use, pram newborn particularly for older children. Also, consider whether you want a pram that is oriented towards parents. It is great for keeping an ear on your child, and makes them feel more secure being able to see their parents.

Convenience

When buying a pram newborn it is crucial to think about your baby's transport needs. Some prams include the option of a carrycot or bassinet which allows your baby to lie flat (essential for their spinal development and breathing) while others come with seats that can recline into a flat position. You should also check what other accessories are included in the pram, such as a footmuff or a changing bag. These are essential for keeping your baby warm when it is cold.

These can be useful for those who have a hectic lifestyle or don't have a big enough boot for prams, however it's important to keep in mind that your child must be old enough and able to sit up independently before you can switch between the car capsule and pram.

Another feature you may want to consider is the possibility of raising and lowering your newborn's seat from a low to high setting, which allows you to maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you. Make sure that your pram newborn has a solid base and wheels that can withstand potholes and bumps. Also, make sure you can fold it down with ease, and check that the safety harness is functional and fits comfortably (five-point instead of three-point) and can be adjusted as your child grows. You should also be able to put your shopping bags and changing bags in the basket underneath (although be aware that putting on too much weight can cause it to tip over).
