UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors get worn out over time and need to be replaced. In this case, it is important that the new handles are in line with the dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's location, lever and key hole dimensions. Refer to the size guide for help with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

Lever Pad

Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll have to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you require for your doors. These are usually square or round with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other types of doors. They operate with a key to unlock a cylinder case which will reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins inside the lock body, permitting them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is crucial. It depends on the use that your doors and handles will receive. For example, external doors require an extra secure cylinder, while internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders come with additional features which can enhance security further, such as anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To make sure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this while the lock is in place however when this isn't feasible, you can take it off and remove it to measure. It is essential to not have a cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it susceptible to lock snapping attacks.

The majority of modern cylinders have been designed with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. These are designed to reduce the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This helps deflect the attack and protect your doors.

Certain cylinders are made to withstand snapping. This is a more frequent method of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the sash lock door handles is smashed with a special tool to snap off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is a much faster and easier way to gain access than a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which can make it difficult to prove insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits in the base of your door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their original position after usage. Previously a lot of handles did not have a spring integrated into them, and as a result, they are more likely to slide or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple part is the most effective way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the open or closed position as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specifically designed for use with multipoint locks that are sprung, they will not fit multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will require a custom hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please look at the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as a single unit. They feature a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
