In supermarkets in London, the freezer doors are often left open.

They are not left open on purpose, but customers leave them open.

And no one closes the open doors.

The store staff doesn't pay any attention to them.

Most freezers are vertical, and some have doors, while others have sliding doors.

It is true that the doors are a bit heavy because they are tall freezers.

But they are left open not because they are heavy, but because they don't care.

There are many people in the UK who are very conscious of environmental issues and CO2 emissions, so why is this happening?

I once went to a supermarket with a Japanese exchange student. He was unconsciously closing the open freezer doors one by one as he talked.

He said, "It bothers me, I just close them naturally."

On another occasion, I went to a supermarket with a young woman from Japan who was working in a casino.

She, too, moved around the store closing all the open refrigerator doors.

"I always go around closing doors unconsciously," she said.

Two young Japanese people were doing the same thing naturally.

No doubt this is the result of Japanese home and school education.

I am in awe of the solid Japanese culture.

I too grew up in a solid Japanese society, so when I come across an open freezer door, my hand naturally moves to close it.
