The Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair on Hardwood Floors

A good robot vacuum can make a significant difference in keeping allergens like dust and pet hair under control. But not all models are created equal.

There are a variety of options to choose from depending on whether you are looking for an animal-friendly vacuum or a robot to complement your other cleaner.

1. Eufy RoboVac Edge G30

The G30 Edge is the newest model in Eufy's budget line robot vacuum cleaners. The G30 Edge is a shining black vacuum cleaner that has pink and blue accents. It looks like an iPhone. This model is easier-to-use than previous models and has features such as BoostIQ which automatically increases suction to ensure better cleaning of all surfaces. It also makes use of intelligent navigation to prevent repeating the same area over and over, an issue that is common with bounce-navigation systems that are simpler.

It does an excellent job of picking up pet hair and crumbs from hard floors, but lags in comparison to the best auto vacuum for pet hair models in collecting dust from carpet. In our tests, it failed to pick up 74% of the powder on hard floors and 26% on carpet.

The G30 Edge is unique in its ability to map out your home using digital maps. This allows it to keep track of the rooms it has cleaned before and prevents it from returning to those rooms which is a major issue with other robots that rely on the use of old-fashioned magnetic tape to define areas that are not allowed to enter.

The G30 Edge also has other conveniences. It has a "Find My Robot" mode that blasts out loud music until it is found and a directional keypad that lets you move the robot. It also comes with an automatic return feature that will send the robot back to its charging station when the battery is low. This is a security feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D shape robot is a robust machine that comes with a variety of smart features. It can clean bare floors efficiently and climb up high-pile carpets with ease. The app also has advanced features like boundary lines remote control access while the robot is operating and a variety of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long line of Neato robots and has a distinctive "D" shape when viewed from above. This design offers several advantages, such as improved corner cleaning and a bigger bin of dust than most other models. The D-shape also enables the robot to get under furniture better than robots that have a circular shape.

When it is first time to begin a cleaning process when it is first started, the D-Shape will pause briefly to make use of spinning infrared lasers to scan and evaluate the area. It will then begin cleaning in a grid, moving systematically from one area to another until the floor is completely covered. This method of cleaning is more effective and thorough than the random approach taken by some competitors.

The d-shape design also permits the D-Shape to have a large dust bin that is 700ml as opposed to 400 to 600ml for comparable robots. The Roomba EVO i3+ is a fantastic option for pet owners. It is a great choice for hard floors and does a fantastic job of cleaning up any debris like rice, cereal and hair of pets. It struggles on carpet however, it is still superior than other robots at this price point. The Roomba EVO is also very good at moving between different floor types. It doesn't stall on transitions as older models. Dual multi-surface brushes can flex and adapt to various flooring types. They also have a tendency to not tangle pet hair.

The i3+ EVO's obstacle avoidance isn't as strong as some of the other robots we tested, and it repeatedly encountered objects during our tests such as handbags shoes and pet toys prior to continuing on its path. It also had difficulty dealing with coarse sea salt which it was able to blow around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO has a lot of features that make it worth the extra cost over other Roomba models, such as the ability to empty the dustbin automatically and advanced control via the app. You can schedule cleanings and set up custom routines. You can also designate zones that prohibit the robot from entering certain areas. The smart scheduling system can suggest additional cleanings during peak allergy times in accordance with your routine. The navigational system is not reliable however, and sometimes cleans in irregular lines such as diagonals or zigzags, rather than parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty, XL

With a detailed mapping technology, this intelligent robot can see your home more than you can. It comes with dual brushes that adjust to different kinds of floors and are able to avoid getting caught up in. This makes it the perfect choice for homes that have pets. You can control the robot through the app, or turn on it hands-free using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The dock, called Omni, automates tasks such as refilling and cleaning the robot's water tanks, emptying debris bins, charging and drier the mop pads.

It's a fantastic value. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL is cheaper than a lot of other robots on our list and yet comes with advanced features, such as mapping and a self-emptying bin that holds a good amount of trash. We tested it in a house with a mix of unfinished carpet and low-pile flooring and found it to move and clean exceptionally well, even navigating corners. The vacuum also does a decent job of picking up pet hair on carpeting, though it doesn't have the same power as some of our top choices.

The Roborock S4 Max, however is more durable, recharges much quicker than the Shark and comes with a wider variety of automation capabilities and scheduling options, including support for "no-go zones". We'd still recommend the Shark when you're looking to buy something cheaper, or if you prefer to use your mobile phone for control and monitoring rather than an actual remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and wet

It's hard to find a machine that combines mopping and vacuuming however this one does just that. The dual tank system of this robot allows it to mop or vacuum with the touch of a button. It easily transitioned between surfaces during our tests, and was able to excel at picking up pet hair from carpets and hardwood floors. It also has an edge-sweeping tool that can remove hair from baseboards and walls.

This is a good choice if you're looking for an affordable robot with additional features. It was able to navigate obstacles with ease during our tests and can be controlled by an app or voice. It even has scheduled cleaning and has a large dustbin to capture messes before they become full. It could take up to 166 mins to complete its work, but this is still faster than other robots that we have test.

The front-facing camera on this robot lets you to monitor the cleanliness of your home by using a map app. It's especially helpful when you're trying to locate a specific item or if your children spill glitter from your decorations on your flooring. You can save yourself lots of frustration by locating the item you lost immediately. Plus the battery is not fade-proof and can run for up to 130 minutes on one charge.

6. Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 looks upscale and delivers a thorough cleaning. It does a great job maneuvering its self and can move under furniture without becoming stuck. It's also a good choice for carpets and rugs with low pile. However, it could get caught on rug tassels and have difficulty getting around corners or tight spaces. It also has trouble picking up pet hair from all surfaces.

The 694 is still superior than most of its rivals despite the lack of features. It scored a perfect 10 on our test of cereal carpet, and passed our test for cat litter with just a few fragments. It's less effective on hardwood flooring. Its side brush scatters huge cereal particles that stick to the floor instead of being vacuumed. It also had a tough time removing table salt from a dry floor, with a lot of grains skidding across the floor, and out of its reach.

It does support app control via the iRobot HOME app as well as voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (via an external device, which is sold separately). It learns your cleaning habits and provides you with a personalized schedule. Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush ensure it gets into hard-to-reach corners, while Dirt Detect sensors alert it to heavily soiled areas. It has a bin that automatically emptys, and the battery lasts for around 60 minutes. The pricier iRobot J7 comes with an sophisticated set of features and is more stable on all surfaces. It is also more robust, has a larger dustbin, charges quicker and can handle obstacles like electrical cords better.
