The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It can be a bit difficult to test as there are different pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get zero Ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car can start if the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, as i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite ohms.
